On the car ride home he asks a question to establish his position: "How about you cook since I bought everything?" he says to his mother, who has been travelling along with him and Willow. "Sounds like a plan," his mother replies. "Wait. Why does Grandma have to cook?" his daughter asks. "She doesn't," he replies, "you and Grandma have to cook." After an honest statement of fact and an apology, she argues that that is not fair, to which he states plainly: "Yes, it is." More arguing; why?—"because I paid for everything." Grandma agrees. Why? Because I did the work to get the money to get the crab cakes. Now you guys do the work of cooking them. "What are you going to do?" she wants to say indignantly, but knows he has probably already scripted a response, so she asks cheerfully instead. He replies: "I'm going to read War & Peace. It's a long book, so take your time."
